About
We listen, act, and help transform
Dani Lorandini graduated from SUNY Geneseo Summa Cum Laude with her Bachelor of Science degree in Communicative Disorders and Sciences. She then graduated from Queens College Summa Cum Laude with her Masters degree in Speech-Language Pathology. She is a licensed Teacher of Students with Speech and Language Disabilities (TSSLD) and holds her Clinical Certificate of Competence (CCC) through the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA). Dani worked for 2 years in a special needs preschool and this is her 7th year working at an elementary school in William Floyd School District. She has taken several courses towards her advanced certificate in literacy as well.
Dani provides treatment for individuals who have articulation disorders, phonological disorders, language delays, language disorders, fluency disorders and voice disorders. Dani also works with children with feeding difficulties and utilizes a feeding hierarchy to expand children's dietary repertoires. Dani has experience working with both children and adults, but primarily works with children ages 2-10. She specializes in working with children with childhood apraxia of speech and she is PROMPT trained. Dani also has significant experience working with children with autism. She is trained in using Proloquo2Go and PECS with children who are non-verbal or working to expand their language skills.
Dani comes from a large family and loves working with children. She believes that it is essential to work as a team with the child and his or her parents or guardians. She believes this is important in order to maximize the child's progress and to improve their ability to generalize skills to a variety of settings. Dani works hard to make therapy effective, while also making it a fun and positive experience for the child. Dani abides by the HIPAA laws of confidentiality and follows the guidelines suggested by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.
What are Articulation Skills?
The ability to accurately produce each speech sound, involving the necessary movements, coordination and placement of the tongue, lips, teeth and jaw. This impacts how people understand your speech.
What are Receptive Language Skills?
The ability to understand language that is spoken, written and non-verbal including the ability to identify common objects, follow directions, or understand a short story. It also includes the ability to identify various concepts such as size and location, understand gestures, sort items into categories and answer questions by pointing.
What are Expressive Language Skills?
The ability to communicate, which involves producing non-verbal gestures, speaking and writing. Expressive language involves the ability to use age appropriate vocabulary, formulate full sentences using appropriate grammatical skills and initiate and maintain a conversation with others. It also involves the ability to answer questions verbally, and to use language for a variety of purposes such as requesting, sharing, asking, demanding and persuading.
What are Feeding Skills?
The ability to tolerate and accept a variety of foods, including differing flavors, textures, smells, shapes and sizes. The Sequential Oral Sensory (SOS) approach was created by Dr. Toomey and helps children become desensitized to interact with and exploring new foods. It helps children expand their diet in a fun and stress-free way.
